My Definition of Success

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Meeting all the other SBIers on the SBI cruise has been fantastic. Each one has such a unique view of the world and their part in it. And as you can imagine they are extremely friendly and Ken is so open and insightful - just as in the SBI forums.

The first evening the SBI group met at the Poolside bar on the eleventh deck. Ken had suggested we talk about success and our definition of it. Well… I am a SLOW thinker and been thinking about this and decided to write down my definition of success.

My Definition Of Success:

-I have enough hands off income to pay all expenses

-I live in a house I own

-I continue to grow in knowledge and wisdom and help my family do the same

-I make mistakes and use them to change course

-I keep fit and healthy

-I add value to the world

-I control my own time and can choose to sleep late whenever I like

-I meet interesting people and learn more from each one

-I outsource things that starts to look like work

-I collect experience and share by writing and publishing

It would be interesting if you have opinions on this…

SiteSell Launches Infin It!

January 17th, 2008 by thrandur

SiteSell is now launching an important addition that will open up almost infinite possibilities for expansion and growth of SiteBuildIt! sites.

As you know I use SBI and recommend for anyone that wants to build a solid business foundation on the web.

Thank YOU Ken and team for making this available!

The only problem I have now is from the dreaded “gadgets abundance syndrome”. Much too hard to choose from all the possibilities.

Bill wrote an excellent article on integrating Wordpress. I know from experience the painstaking detail he has gone through. And the integration he shows looks flawless!

Alf also wrote an enlightening article on the phpBB forums integration. It gives a different angle on the integration possibilities. It doesn’t have to be too complicated.

Because I have to get going for the SBI Cruise. I probably will have to wait with launching until I get back. Luckily I can use the time as I relax in the sun - zipping on a cool pina colada and dipping my toes into the swimming pool to think about and select the best route for my sites.

From Ken’s announcement:

Infin It!, the module that allows you to add a WordPress or TypePad blog, or a forum, or a store, or… just about anything as a subdomain of your site, is now LIVE! :)

You’ll find it just beside MX It! in the Activity Center section of Site Central’s BusinessCenter.

Infin It! opens up the SBI! architecture and lets you extend your SBI! site functionality with modules that are not “core” to C -> T -> P -> M, but that may be important to some SBIers.

For example, only a small percentage of SBIers may actually want to full-blog. Now they can.

Ditto for running your own forums.

Or putting up a store.

It’s a little like the “long-tail” of modules. While only a small percentage of SBIer may want to use any particular functionality, when you add everyone together, I expect Infin It! to meet a whole bunch of SBIers’ special needs and wants.

—–SIDEBAR—–
“Infin It!” is the perfect name due to its
near-infinite possibilities — thanks, Erwin!

Maximize Your AdSense CTR?

January 16th, 2008 by thrandur

Maximizing the AdSense CTR and the earnings per click is one of the best ways to dramatically increase the income from your website. As Google is trying to minimize the number of clicks on ads this can make serious dent in your sites income.

According to this article you will have 3-4 ads on your page MAX. (NOT ad blocks. ADS). The fewer Adsense ads show on a page, the higher the average earnings per click for you. If you place more ads on your page, they will show ads that rank lower on Adwords (and are cheaper). You don’t want people to click on ads that pay you $0.05. You want them to click on ads that pay you $0.50!

Amputees Too Good For The Olympics?

January 14th, 2008 by thrandur

IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) ruled today that the prosthetic feet used by double amputee, Oscar Pistorius give him too much of an advantage over other contestants! Oscar is consequently banned from competing in the Beijing Olympics.

Cheetah Flex-Foot

Pistorius lost both his legs as a child and is using prosthetic feet designed and manufactured Ossur. The feet are made of carbon and are light and strong as well as highly flexible.

According to the findings of the IAAF the feet make it possible for Pistorius to run at 25% less energy use than an able bodied athlete. No wonder Pistorius has got the nickname “Blade Runner”.

“An athlete using this prosthetic blade has a demonstrable mechanical advantage (more than 30 per cent) when compared to someone not using the blade,” the IAAF said.

Oscar Pistorius

After winning gold and bronze at the Special Olympics in 2004, Oscar wanted to compete on equal terms with able bodied athletes at the Beijing Olympics.

This is a big disappointment for Oscar who is at his peak of his career and still only 21.

If I would rule - I would let him compete!

Build A Money Making Website

January 12th, 2008 by thrandur

You can build a simple web site to show your friends and family with pictures of your kids and your summer holiday. This is easy (but will not make you any money).

Most site builders start with cheap hosting and throw up a site and in some cases spend huge amounts of money in software and graphics design.

The problem is that the world wide web is full of sites that all are trying to get your attention. Lets say you get a site up and fill it with information about your company and how to contact you. As you will quickly find out: “In Cyberspace Nobody Can Hear You Scream”. You can spend a money on getting the best graphical designers and the best programmers to make a good looking and easily accessible web site. What you will soon find out is that nobody comes through to you this route. Of course you can spend even more money on advertising to get a trickle of visitors.

Imagine sitting in your home or office and looking at your AdSense account and your traffic statistic every 15 minutes - and - NOTHING. Not one cent. With your mortgage due in a few days and your starving kids at home and the leasing company is hauling away your car - you’re in BIG TROUBLE!

The Solution

Lucky for you there is a solution. SBI shows how you can get by without a great upfront budget.

Building a web site to make some money and earn you some income is possible. Of course you have to discover the “insiders secrets” and use the right tools and the right mindset. It is just a slightly different task – and it can be easy if you have the right tool set and the right guide to follow.

Like everyone else you have knowledge about something – passion, hobby or a job. Take that knowledge and turn it into a successful business. Use what you already have: your brains and motivation.

The potential of the internet is that the world is one giant marketplace. Not just for products - but for ideas also. Hundreds of visitors a day turning into thousands of visitors translates into unbelievable income possibilities.

Discover the way out of the 9-5 routine JOB. Free yourself from the dreaded Dilbert cubicle.

What you get in the SBI package is way more than hosting:

SiteBuildIt!

P.S. SBI has worked extremely well for me. It is NOT a Get-Rich-Quick scheme - only a solid way to tortoise your way to lasting success in the web world.

Indexed In Google In 5 Minutes!

January 7th, 2008 by thrandur

I am completely stumped by this…

…after writing a review about the Seven Greatest Lies of Network Marketing and posting it to this blog, I searched for it on Google and what do you know? The page is already in the index after only 5 short minutes!

Indexed In Google In 5 Minutes!

Why - you may ask?

The reason has to have something to do with the way that blogs are favored by Google as well as the Web 2.0 pages that are updated automatically from my RSS feeds.

This is only a tiny step of the many available as you can find out for yourself if you click here to join the Social Power Linking.

Review: The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing

January 7th, 2008 by thrandur

A few years ago I was introduced to an MLM company (who will remain nameless for now). To begin with I was slightly interested and spent some time and money because I thought this was something that could work for me. Needless to say my success was limited and my interest level sank. All the money I spent was forgotten.

Just recently I read a book by a woman called Ann Sieg. She had similar experience and even uglier - because she harassed her friends and family and did all what she was told by her “up line”. Unfortunately there is a lot of hype and downright lies in traditional MLM. The companies seem to care mostly for themselves and not the average Joe or Jane on the street.

The book I read is called “The Renegade Marketer” and tells Ann’s story about how she turned things around until she was able to beat the network marketing companies in their own game. In fact I think the book is useful even if your marketing efforts are NOT in network marketing.

The “secret” is to create your own information product business and add network marketing products that fit your own line.

Before you spend your money on Ann’s book, I think you should read the FREE report she made where she points out the “The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing”.

Largest Digital Camera Ever Constructed

January 6th, 2008 by thrandur

Amazing how fast the digital technology is growing.

Bill Gates and ex-Microsoft executive Charles Simonyi have donated a combined $30 million to the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, which will feature the largest digital camera ever constructed. Scientists say it will provide a “color movie” of the universe.

Largest Digital Camera Ever Constructed

The donation will go partly to the construction of LSST’s three giant mirrors, which will enable it to survey more of the sky faster than any other telescope. With its three-billion pixel camera, the telescope will produce 30 terabytes of images that will be immediately available to the public online.
