In the opening speech at the “You are in Control” conference in Reykjavik we got to listen to one of my favorite thinkers. Paul Bennett is the creative director of the highly innovative IDEO company.

His opening with a weird Youtube music video of a pre-punk pre-disco French band, set the stage. He would not give us “STRATEGIC SHIT”!

Three main points:

• Relinquish control – gives you control
• Doing good – begets doing good (trust and morality)
• Pie is the new Slice (work to increase the size of the whole instead of trying to get a piece of the pie)

• Embrace failure and learn from it
• Be utterly transparent
• Be peoply wepoly
• Create the THEATER not the PLAY
• Be fundamentally trusting

At this point in time I think it is in order to consider how government agencies categorize their documents.

I hear from my reliable first hand sources that there are two document categories:

The first type is “under consideration” – these are important documents that are LOST.

The other type are documents that are categorized as “under active consideration” – these importand documents are also lost – but are being searched for!

Seth Godin at his best. Seth shows how the Internet is changing marketing from the mass marketing model to a more human one. People joining together to form groups around specific ideas and values and lead by leaders. The new social units are an echo from the past that we know as tribes.

Seth urges us to get an idea worth following and start a movement. You can lead a movement and get other ordinary people to follow and together you can make big changes.

Filmmakers Barry and Felicia Ptolemy (Ptolemaic Productions) documented Kurzweil’s life for two years in 25 cities in five countries, as he explored the social and philosophical implications of the coming profound changes and the potential threats they pose to human civilization in presentations and dialogues with 22 noted luminaries such as Colin Powell, Peter Diamandis, Dean Kamen, William Shatner, Stevie Wonder, and Kevin Warwick.

“My ideas [in the film] challenge people’s most basic assumptions about life, death, and what it means to be human,” said Kurzweil. In his post-biological world, there will be no clear distinction between human and machine and real reality and virtual reality, human aging and illness will be reversed, world hunger and poverty will be solved, and we will ultimately cure death, he says, revealing in the film that he intends to bring back his father, composer Fredric Kurzweil.
