Here is an interesting little video series of how the banks began and operate. All explained in a simple way and simple language. See how the banks actually make money. Some ideas for future monetary system not based on debt.
This scene from Delicatessen doesn’t need any words to get the meaning across. Brilliant use of metaphors:
Imagine the rhythmic sound of lovemaking on a squeaky bed, girl playing the cello, woman beating the dust out of a carpet, a boy pumping air into his bikes tire, a musical beat maker ticking along and a guy hanging on his trouser braces to paint hard to reach ceiling etc. etc. - and with the tempo gradually increasing this can only end with a bang.
The film is full of humor of this kind with great use of visual symbols and is really funny although the jokes are of the darkest kind.
This is a show from the N4 TV station that operates in Akureyri, Iceland. It was aired on August 28th
[The program starts in Icelandic, so for those of you not too familiar with the language here is a rough translation]
Thorgeir: “Hello, now its time for the feature -From the North-.”
“Iceland is a very exciting country in the eyes of many foreigners and they often see things that we the locals don’t. Among these are two american motorcycle guys that we met.”
Helgi: “This week two men from Denver, Colorado passed throuh Akureyri, Ron Douglas and John Hume. Their journey is unusual, as they travel by motorcycles because they are both avid bikers. And they try to find difficult and out of the ordinary routes. Pushing them selfes and their bikes. As if that is not enough they are producing a documentary about the journey around Iceland that may even get on the Discovery Channel next year. ”
Helgi: “Tell me, how do you know these two americans?”
Thrandur: “Yeah, I got to know Ron Douglas when I bought the 4×4 you see behind us, in Colorado four years ago. I drove it from Colorado to the east coast and exported it to Iceland. Then I modified the truck like we like to do here in Iceland.”
Helgi: “Now they are here. What are they up to?”
Thrandur: “They are traveling around the country. An adventure tour around Iceland. They are driving on two motorcycles and I am going with them, showing them the right places and making sure they get get the right experience.”
Helgi: “What is 4×4OffRoads?”
Thrandur: “4×4OffRoads is a 4×4 site that is hugely popular around the world. It is written in English and therefor accessible to most. Currently With around 8000 daily guests - it is pretty good.”
Helgi: “And you go from here and take them the whole circle (around Iceland) ?”
Thrandur: “Yes, next we are heading to Húsavík for some whale watching. Then up to Mývatn, to Hótel Reynihlíð. From there we will most likely take the Sprengisandur road over the highlands because they have to reach their flight home.”
Helgi: “John and Ron (and Thrandur) stayed in the guesthouse at Gránufélagsgata where Sverrir Bergsson rules. He ownes the web site www.gista.is The guesthouse came in good use for the travelers.”
- Interview in English with Ron Douglas and John Hume. -
Helgi: “The guesthouse at Gránufélagsgata where the partners stayed is at the side of a kindergarten. The kids soon noticed the two guys on big motorcycles. Ron even started a conversation with the kids, probably because he has six kids himself.
And then they headed off to the next destination - these two colorful bikers.”
Ray Kurzweil has to be one of the smartest man on this Earth. His message for the future is something to take note of.
In this keynote speech at the Singularity Summit he gives a deep and insightful vision of the technological advancements we can expect for the next years and decades.
Ray has been predicting the future for more than twenty years using the premise of exponential growth in almost all sectors of the information technology field.
These advancements will touch our lives in the coming years. We are at the brink of a revolution of sorts where the processing power of computers will be greater than the human mind and eventually even the human race!
If you want to get a better feeling for what is coming I highly recommend you read his books:
Watch out! - here come the engineers who have cats who yodel. It’s called the “Engineers’ Guide to Cats”. It is SO funny, because these guys are the absolute textbook engineers and their explanations for what their cats do are so well done. It makes me laugh every time I see it.
Two professional engineers illustrate the proper care and practical benefits of cats. None of the cats, humans, or engineers were mistreated in the making of this film. They were however, slightly annoyed. Song on ending credits is called “Sparky’s New Bike” from Shockwave-sound.com royalty free music website.
