Just when you thought the browser wars were over (with Mozilla Firefox the winner) – a newcomer steps in. Google has just released the Google Chrome browser. Although it is marked as Beta the browser seems extremely solid and obviously has a great deal of thought and effort put into it.
I just instaleld it on my PC and the experience is all good. The interface feels natural – with tabs on top. And the best part is the speed increase you immediadely notice. In a simple test of loading my (admittedly content rich and heavy) 4x4Offroads.com index page I get these results (non scientific) comparing the browsers:
WOW! – Now we’re talking speed.
I highly recommend you try the new born Google Chrome browser out and am sure you will switch ower completly
Insidently I got the news from an old friend and colleque who has been working on the Chrome project and had to keep silent about what he was working on.
User experience is a high priority and the browser “learns” about your browsing habits and displays the most visited pages and searches – right there on the startup page.
From a design standpoint the Google Chrome is a BIG step up from previous browsers. Its speed is made possible by having each tap run in a separate thread – making garbage collection way better and memory leaks should be a thing of the past.
For more about the technical design you can read a comic style story with the overview here.
Many will be concerned that Google is gaining too much power and knowledge about the internet and its users – time will tell…
Overall – I’m impressed and will use the broser.
